Security Personnel Killings in Ghana
The once extremely peaceful and hospitable Ghana we all used to know has degenerated into a country where some individuals have decided to make conscious efforts to turn themselves into blood-sucking security service personnel killers. In 2017, it started with the then Captain Maxwell Mahama, the nephew of the former president of the land, H.E. John Dramani Mahama. Captain Mahama was brutally murdered inhumanely by the cruel residents of Denkyira-Obuasi, a community in the Central region of Ghana: the same people he was sent to protect.
As if that was not enough, another police officer, Constable Michael Kporyi was also murdered while on patrol in the Tulaku area, near Michel Camp.
One question remains inevitable: Are we safe in this country if those who are charged with our safety are being murdered by the same people they are meant to protect? They were armed but still got murdered, what about the ordinary citizen who does not own a gun?
The young men who have decided to really do their jobs are losing their lives over there convictions. They deserve a lot better than what we gave them. What happened to them was unfortunate and as citizens, we expect to see anyone involved in these acts of cruelty to bear the full weight of the law.
Other than that, lawlessness will become a culture in this country.
